Michael Kirby, the keynote speaker was amazing. He spoke of growing up as an emotionally troubled young man in 1950's Australia. He was unsure of his feelings toward other men and his sexual orientation was chided as unnatural and evil. His connection to IU started when he learned about the Kinsey Institute. When he spoke of acceptance and moving forward the applause was momentous. My eyes watered without hesitation at his epoch speech.Charleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5863163246942704996.post-29944575193546022062009-05-11T11:04:00.000-04:002009-05-11T11:05:09.105-04:009/11 ArchitectureCharleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5863163246942704996.post-71247836310810572082009-05-11T11:00:00.001-04:002009-05-11T11:02:25.657-04:00The Story of Stuff

Let's be a little greener.Charleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5863163246942704996.post-33873908390373893052009-05-11T10:51:00.002-04:002009-05-11T10:53:40.707-04:00Watch your credit cards.Credit cards have taken over the economy. I think they are great and love the points associated with them. You just have to pay them or at least not spend more than you can. I have heard so many stories about people with loads of debt. All I can say is spend less.Charleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5863163246942704996.post-39618159452134182242009-05-11T10:43:00.001-04:002009-05-11T10:46:01.076-04:00Economic PredictionsBetter news about the economy.Charleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5863163246942704996.post-55891886204436610992008-03-14T09:30:00.003-04:002008-03-14T09:34:26.518-04:00Friday AnticsWell, it's a Friday and I'm at work. Who knew?

We are still working our usual 4 day weeks with a modified schedule of every 5th week someone will work five 8 hour days. I think I'll like it. I get to leave early during the week and do things I might not get to do that start before 7pm. Today, it's been quiet and I imagine it will be. The phone has not rung and I haven't checked my mail yet. It is surreal sitting in the office and not being able to talk to my usual circuit of morning conversations. I guess I'll just break down and talk to the kids on the wall.Charleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5863163246942704996.post-23945939016650842562008-02-20T18:18:00.002-05:002008-02-20T18:28:28.471-05:00Election 2008I believe at this point the Democrats need to get their act together. We should be wise enough to realize that the only thing that unites the Republicans is a hatred for Hillary Clinton. John McCain is not a candidate that can unite the Republican Party, nor is there anyone else for that matter. I feel there will be a large paradigm shift after this election within that party.

But the Republicans will get behind whoever is the alternate candidate to Hillary Clinton. I hope that Texans and Ohioans and the rest of the states that vote on March 4th realize that by voting for Hillary Clinton, is voting for John McCain. Democrats, if they want to win the White House need to get behind Barack Obama. Not only is he charismatic and fresh to the scene, but he will be a refutation of the status quo. We need a President that can give the rest of the world hope that we are not going to continue to be controlled by thoughts of hegemony and giant corporations. John McCain AND Hillary Clinton will only reinforce our negative image in the world. I'm all for a woman as President, but this woman will not bring any change. She has a lot of experience but none that is relevant to be the next President.Charleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5863163246942704996.post-9295469838839049412008-02-18T15:33:00.003-05:002008-02-18T15:57:25.388-05:00EntrapmentFollowing a fascination in our country with sex-predators and their demise, I would like to make a few comments about it.

I enjoy watching Dateline's To Catch a Predator. I find it hilarious. It's amusing to see these not-so-intelligent men get caught for "possibly committing a crime." My first problem, why are there never any woman on these shows getting caught? There are woman out there that get in trouble all the time for having a "liaison" with a young guy. Why can't we play up their creepy factor by luring them into police custody like they do all these men that get caught on the show. And that's my biggest problem. I believe that the police are using a horrible tactic in trying to "deter" crime. I believe that these men, or women, would not commit these crimes (if intention is a crime) if they did not have the opportunity to do so. The police are maliciously tempting normal, law-abiding citizens (in some cases, yes, I know some of these men do have records) into a situation they created.

Let's put this in another context. A police officer puts a quarter on the ground and watches to see if someone picks it up. Normally, people pick up change all the time and never turn it in. Should they be put in jail and never be allowed to vote again, because a police officer baited someone into "stealing"?

I believe this tactic the police are using is unfair and creates a culture of fear.

The best way to combat internet predators is to hold the parents of the children responsible. Children should not be allowed unlimited unmonitored internet access. The parents should be more responsive the what their children are doing and what they are involved with in their free-time. It's high-time we hold parents accountable for raising their own children.

With my statements, I do not support or encourage internet predators. I believe if someone commits a crime they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.Charleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5863163246942704996.post-68639378787163213702008-02-18T10:31:00.000-05:002008-02-18T10:49:07.624-05:00Don't Eat the MeatAppalled is the only word that comes to mind about my experience at the gym this morning. I arrived in time to learn the events of the weekend happenings via NBC's Today Show, GMA (every time I see this "news-show," I expect someone to come away with some type of music award), Fox News, and sometimes the delight of ESPN. One of the major news stories today revolved around the re-call of millions of pounds of beef. Having heard this story a few weeks ago on NPR I couldn't believe it then and I was more shocked this morning The news showed footage of the conditions that cows were put through just to be brought to a slaughterhouse, pushing them with forklifts, when they can barely stand and hitting them in the heads. I assume the only alternative is death for these sad cows, but it was just shameful to see the footage. It's absolutely disgusting what some company's will do just to increase their bottom line. Personally, I don't eat beef, mainly for the taste but this will definitely sway my opinion from trying it anytime soon.Charleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00925905437016485644noreply@blogger.com0
